Computers are a critical part of the educational experiance. With technology being such a large part of everyday life, children need to now how to use computers and other electronical devices in order to succeed. The earlier they are introduced to the terminolgy and workings of these programs the easier it will be for them to learn and understand the technology they will be using as they get older. One major problem however, will be access to computers. Some lower income schools may not have enough computers for all of its students and the ones they have might not be up to date. Some schools may not even have computers to begin with. This will expand the gap between the lower and higher SES students.

I plan on becoming an elementary school teacher so technology will not play as large a role in the classroom as it would in middle or high school, but i do think primary school children should be introduced to the computer and learn the basic workings of it and its applications. The students could do projects to show them how to use programs like Word. I would also use technology to supliment my teaching, but only when it is appropriate to my lesson plans and will not distract my students from what i am trying to teach them.

My goal for this class is to learn as much as I can about technology and its applications so that I may successfully use them in my classroom. I would like to be able to use technology to enhance my students learning, but overuse it and have it take away from my teaching. Hopefully this class will help me find a balance.
